Messi Breaks Barcelona's Free-Kick Record

Lionel Messi broke another Barcelona record on Saturday, as his objective from a set-piece saw him turn into the most productive free-kick scorer ever.

Messi has now outperformed Ronald Koeman's count of 26.

Barca had led the pack against Athletic Bilbao through Paco Alcacer's first La Liga objective for the Catalans, yet the Argentine genius ventured up to take a free-kick from the privilege of the punishment range.

Messi's low shot was on target, yet Gorka Iraizoz totally missed the flight of the ball and it crawled under him, as Barcelona multiplied their lead.

It was Messi's 27th effective free-kick for the club.

The 29-year-old had coordinated Koeman's record against Athletic in the Copa del Rey a month ago.

Barcelona won 3-0, with Aleix Vidal scoring the third. Luis Enrique's men have now scored 100 objectives in all rivalries this season.
