Barcelona To launch £94m move for Man Utd transfer target this month
Barcelona are on the hunt for a new forward.
The Cules are top of La Liga and through to the knockout rounds of the Champions League, but club officials are still apparently unhappy with the current squad.
Last summer they forked out £108million on Antoine Griezmann, but his relationship with Lionel Messi has been questioned by fans and pundits.
The Frenchman has managed seven goals and four assists in 19 games, but he apparently isn’t viewed as the ideal central striker.
Instead, new boss Quique Setien wants to bring in a new number nine as a long-term replacement for Luis Suarez.
The Uruguayan is out for the rest of the season after having knee surgery, and there are doubts over his ability to stay fit going forward.
According to Spanish publication Sport, Barca want to make a move for Inter Milan striker Martinez, and are keen to complete the move during the current window.
The deal could cost upwards of £94m, because the 22-yer-old has a release clause which makes him available to the Blaugrana.
On Monday, Setien admitted he was on the hunt for a new central striker.
“It's true we're speaking about it,” he said.
“But we still have to move things on a little bit.
“It's an issue I still can't answer and I am not going to do so
I have spoken about some things with the club, but nothing in concrete.
"They're internal issues and it's preferable for me if you don't ask me, because I am not going to say anything, so let's not waste time."
The same publication claims Barca are looking at Chelsea target Timo Werner, who reportedly has a release clause of £50.9m.
The Red Bull Leipzig forward has scored 20 goals in 18 Bundesliga games this season.
